A Message From Our Principal, Dr. Martin Gomez

 Hello O’C Family,

First semester was full of many great accomplishments that the O’C staff is proud of:

-          Several of our seniors (26 out of 113) are ALREADY accepted into 4 year colleges!  Avoid “Senioritis” and continue to do well in all classes!

-          O’C met its attendance goal for first quarter and increased our percentage for second quarter as well!

-          The Tech 21 Building was completed and there are many interested students and partnerships that want to push college concurrently with trade skills at O’C!

-          O’C has had five positive articles written in SF Chronicle and Mission Local!

-          O’C EL students have shown gains compared to last year based on the CELDT!

-          O’C developed an “O’C is the place to be!” CD and staff has visited over 10 middle schools to encourage student enrollment!

-          O’C facilities have been upgraded (new phones, computers and labs, new marquee, upgraded internet switches, and additional Promethean boards-document cameras-projectors…with MORE to come)!

-          O’C passed out to each student an “O’C is the place to be!” shirt and the pep rallies have improved student and school motivation!

-          Less student tardies compared to last year over first semester!

-          O’C has recognized Students of the Month (2 per grade level) as part of the overall student recognition program!

-          All teachers have implemented an Expository Writing lesson in every class!

-          O’C officially changed its name to John O’Connell High School!

Second semester is upon us and in order to show results from all of the accomplishments from above, O’C students must do well on the upcoming CAHSEE (February 6th and 7th) and STAR (mid April) exams.  The O’C staff has decided to prepare students by focusing on Power Standards, implementing Expository Writing in all classes, personalizing with more students via Advisory, and holding students to higher behavioral and instructional standards than ever before!

Students are reminded that good students are good - EVERY DAY!  The Staff is encouraged and challenged to transform from good to GREAT teachers by reflecting on their instructional methods based on student data and teaching from bell to bell – EVERY DAY!  O’C has the students, staff, support, and resources to make O’C a GREAT school. Together, we make “O’C the place to be!”

Winter Sports Assembly & Pep Rally, 1/19

Thank you Mr. Cruz & O'C Student Council students for the awesome Pep Rally on Thursday, 1/19!

There was a great show of school spirit.  All students, especially the juniors and seniors, showed that they were proud to be at O'C!  The posters by the Junior class and their win in the four-person ski competition put them over the top.

The winning class of last week's spirit rally was the JUNIOR CLASS, the O'C Class of 2013!!
